“Moral freedom requires both the ability to respond to God’s grace as well as the ability to resist it. In the end, one either perfects his moral freedom, or he perverts it.” (Jerry Walls from Hell: The Logic of Damnation)
The evil dictators Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Saddam Hussein, could have blessed their countries with peace instead of evil. It was in their power to bless or destroy.
Circumstances of life influence our choices to a certain degree, but there are numerous examples of people born into adverse circumstances of life who have overcome insurmountable obstacles to better themselves and be a blessing to the world.
Victor Frankl was imprisoned at several concentration camps by Nazis. His wife and family were killed by Nazis. He overcame those horrible experiences, blessing millions of others with his book, Man’s Search For Meaning which has sold over 10 million copies and has been translated into 24 languages.
C. S. Lewis said, “Every time you make a choice you are turning the central part of you, the part of that chooses, into something a little different from what it was before. And taking your life as a whole, with all your innumerable choices, all your life long you are slowing turning this central thing either into a heavenly creature or into a hellish creature.”
God gave each created being a free moral will. He will never force us to choose to love Him nor will He force you and me to make the right choices.
He has given you to power to bless or destroy what and who is in your life. Will you end up like a heavenly or hellish creature? Will you respond to God’s grace or resist it?
