Abraham was mediating in his tent door one evening when he looked up and saw three men approaching him. He addressed one of them as Adonai or the Lord in a body of flesh. After a visit, the other two angels went on toward Sodom to rescue Lot and his family. Adonai stayed and communed with Abraham. Abraham knowing who was standing before him, began to intercede for Sodom and Gomorrah. He pleaded with Adonai to spare these cities if there were ten righteous souls found within their walls. Adonai then left Abraham alone to his thoughts while the two angels were doing their best to rescue Lot and his family.
In the New Testament we are instructed to be alert when we entertain strangers, for they could be angels manifested in a body. (Hebrews 13:2)
Angels are created by God to be messengers and ministers to the heirs of salvation. (Hebrews 1:14)
Psalm 91:11 says God will give His angels charge over those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High, and they shall keep you in all of your ways.
Angels are spoken about freely today by New Age followers. Angels can be guides, or departed loved ones, or ascended masters, or unseen helpers. What New Age doesn’t tell you is what the Bible says about communicating with these unseen spirit beings. God instructed Moses not to have anything to do with familiar spirits or those who summon them for your personal uses. John tells us to test these unseen spirits to make sure that they speak according to the already revealed Word of God and comply with the character of Christ as absolute Truth. (I John 4:1)
Despite the claims of New Age practitioners, spirit guides are anything but benevolent. They are what the Bible calls “familiar spirits” (Leviticus 20:27). They don’t announce their evil nature but portray themselves as beneficial.
Second Corinthians 11:14-15 says, “Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness.”
Spirit guides are actually demonic spirits who masquerade as helpers in order to trap and destroy people with false teachings and occult practices. Abraham knew for sure that he was communing with the Lord and His angels because they spoke in agreement with God’s Word already revealed to him. This is also the way you will know when an angel appears to you. God’s angels always lift Christ up as Son of God, and they always speak what is already revealed within the pages of God’s Word.
We live in a world where evil is all around us. We truly walk through the valley of the shadow of death at times, and are totally unaware of God’s protecting angels.
Stacy walked home from work one night in a poor section of Brooklyn, New York. She saw a man ahead of her loitering against a building. Stacy felt fear immediately sensing that the man was up to no good. She had to pass him to get to her apartment.
“Guardian angel protect me. Be right beside me now and save me from harm.”
She strode confidently straight ahead right by the man. She felt him looking at her, but she kept walking right past him and to her apartment. She soon heard sirens. When she looked out the window she saw the police flashing lights.
The next day on her way to work she saw a neighbor and asked what was the excitement about last night. The neighbor told her that there had been a rape, just after six o’clock.
Stacy knew the rape had occurred at the same spot where she had passed the loitering man just before six o’clock.
She called the police and they already had the suspect in custody. They asked her is she would be willing to pick him out of a lineup since she got a good look at him. She identified the man she saw and asked the officer,
“Why didn’t he attack me?” “I was just as vulnerable as the next woman who came along.”
The policeman said he would question the suspect. He described Stacy to this man and asked him why he had not attacked her. The rapist said,
“Why would I have bothered her?” “She was walking down the street with two big guys, one on each side of her.”
God has assigned guardian angels to you from the moment of your conception. Be aware of them, and thank God for their protection, as you exalt Jesus Christ as your Lord and God. They have saved you from harm many times, and have given you nudges to do the right thing often. Take time to think back on your life and consider some of those unusual moments when it was just too good to be a coincidence. There are no coincidences to those who love and obey the Lord Jesus Christ.
