Take time to read the post by Rev. Mark H. Creech for The Christian Post entitled, The Bible in America: Why Can’t We Hear the Truth?
Rev. Creech uses ambient noise machines to illustrate why people are not able to hear the Word of God today. Noise machines use constant sounds to tune out unwanted background sounds. The following is an excerpt from his article.
“This made me think. It seems to me that there is such constancy of sound today very few people can discern the truth. Figuratively speaking, the ambient noise generators of our day trick us with their sophistication, half-truths, false comparisons, revisionism, and many other distractions of contention. Only people who truly listen can distinguish truth from falsehood.”
Rev. Creech points out the miraculous survival of the Bible through persecution and its profound influence upon all areas of society for good. Yet now we have removed it from the public square and from our individual lives.
Norman L. Geisler and William E. Nix, in their book, Introduction to the Bible, contend:
“The influence of the Bible and its teaching in the Western world is clear for all who study history. And the influential role of the West in the course of world events is equally clear. Civilization has been influenced more by the Judeo-Christian Scriptures than by any other book or series of books in the world. Indeed, no great moral or religious work in the world exceeds the depth of morality in the principle of Christian love, and none has a more lofty spiritual concept than the biblical view of God. The Bible presents the highest ideals known to men, ideals that have molded civilization.”
We are living in perilous times when we are calling what is truth a lie and making the lie sound like truth. The devil is a liar excelling at deceit. He is using human beings to use words that are smooth as butter but behind those words is a sword that is ready to kill all that is right and good before God in our lives.
The Bible and Christians are being attacked and persecuted around the world today as never before. Our own country has been added to the list of countries who persecute Christians on the Hall of Shame report for the first time in history. Yet, we hear very little about this in the media or from our churches.
Rev. Creech closes his article with the following:
“In a multicultural society as our own, granted, it becomes essential that we listen to each other. But it is inevitably fatal, both individually and corporately, to fail to listen to God. Man loses his soul. Society loses it light, and consequentially our lives and liberty.
There are a lot of ambient noise generators that would trick us from hearing God’s voice.
God isn’t silent. He’s still speaking. We’re just having trouble hearing him because we’ve neglected the one thing that makes it possible to cut through all the “white noise” of the day and discern the truth. We’ve rejected the Bible.”
The Bible is inspired by God. His Holy Spirit moved upon holy men moving them to write His Words. They are Living Words full of God’s Spirit and God’s Eternal Life. If we read it with a carnal mind, we miss what He is saying to us. We have to ask Him to open the eyes of our hearts and mind to hear what He is speaking to our inner man. Once we do this, we find that the Words of the Bible lift off the paper right into our minds and into our hearts.
If we listen to the media and even many pastors, all we will hear will be half-truths compromising what the Bible really says about sin and our need to humble ourselves in repentance asking God to be our Savior. New Age and Occult teachings have infiltrated the church allowing many to feel justified in living lifestyles that are judged by God’s Word as harmful to our spiritual inner man. We walk in darkness of the evil one who rules this world, instead of the Light of God that desires to lead us to eternal life in His Presence.
Rev. Creech reminds us that:
“There was a time when we recognized the Bible for its unparalleled and divine character. We trusted it as a compass for determining absolute truth and our knowledge in every field of human endeavor was unmatched around the world.
Are we now better without it? Hardly!”
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105
Ronald Reagan said this about the Bible:
“Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face.”
Let’s pray that President Donald Trump will be given a hunger from God for His Word as well, inspiring all Americans to dust off our Bibles and begin anew to seek His Voice for the salvation of all who are dear to us and for God’s favor upon America again. Only His Word is able to judge righteously in this life and only His Word will judge each of us when we stand before Him as we draw our last earthly breath.
