God is Light. He is a consuming fire. He has no darkness in Him at all. He dwells in a Light that no man is able to approach unto. God is also all-powerful, or omnipotent. He is everywhere present at the same time, or omnipresent. He knows all and sees all, or omniscience. God is love. God is just. God is holy. God is self-existent. God is self-sufficient. God is gracious. God is merciful. God is sovereign. God is jealous. God is good. God is infinite. God is unchanging. God is sinless. God is purity. God is righteous. God is longsuffering. God is slow to anger. God is a Spirit.
Genesis 1:3, “And God said, Let there be Light and there was Light.”
Exodus 3:2-6, “And the Angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a Flame of Fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.” “…God called unto him out of the midst of the bush…”Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.” “I am the God of thy father Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.”
The Children of Israel had Light by day and by night to guide them through the wilderness; a pillar of cloud during the day and a pillar of fire during the night. (Exodus 13:21)
The Tabernacle had a golden candlestick that the priests had to make sure that it was lit at all times of the day and the night. They were required to trim the wicks in the morning and in the evening, every day. (A good pattern for us to check our own spiritual lamps as we pray and give thanks to God twice a day)
David declared the Lord to be his Light and his salvation, and that God covers Himself with Light as with a garment. (Psalm 27:1 & 104:2)
David states that the Word of God is a lamp unto his feet and a Light unto his pathway and the entrance of God’s Words give Light. (Psalm 119:105, & 130)
Proverbs 20:27, “The spirit of man is the Candle of the Lord.”
Psalm 18:28, “For thou wilt Light my Candle: the Lord will enlighten my darkness.”
John 8:12, “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the Light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
Matthew 5:14, “Ye are the Light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.”
Paul saw the Light of Christ shining around about him on the road to Damascus. (Acts 9:3 & 22:6)
I Timothy 6:16, “Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the Light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.”
Revelation 21:22-26, “And I saw no temple therein. For the Lord God Almighty is the temple thereof, and the Lamb. And the city hath no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine in it. For the glory of God hath enlightened it: and the Lamb is the lamp thereof. And the nations shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory and honor into it. And the gates thereof shall not be shut by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.”
Genesis 3:8, “And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the Presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.”
John 3:19, “And this is the condemnation that Light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil.”
God is Light, without any darkness whatsoever. He walked with Adam and Eve in the garden, clothed in His pure and holy Light. Adam and Eve were able to communicate with Him, without clothes, without shame or guilt, indicating that they were also clothed with His Light. A Light without darkness. A Light of purity and holiness. A Light of innocence.
After Adam and Eve sinned, God had to kill an innocent animal and use the hide to clothe their nakedness. The Holy Spirit of God’s Presence was removed from their spirits, as they realized they were standing outside of the garden and they could no longer look upon God and His Light.
Every instance of Light, after the garden, was pointing to the coming of Christ as the Messiah. Jesus arrived as the Light of His Father, inside a body of flesh. God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself. In Him dwelt the fullness of the Godhead, bodily. Christ is the image of the invisible God. I and my Father are one. If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.
When Christ ascended back to His Father, He poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost, and suddenly the Apostles understood all that Jesus had been trying to teach them for the past several years. They then boldly proclaimed the good news of Christ, informing the believers that they were Children of Light and that believers are to put on the Armour of Light. (Romans 13:12, Ephesians 5:8, I Thessalonians 5:5)
Paul said in Ephesians 1:18, “I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called–his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.”
He had a reason to pray this way. II Corinthians 4:4, “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”
Since Adam and Eve, Satan has tried to deceive people into believing they can be their own god, without judgment for their sins. He blinds the eyes of their understanding by appearing as angels of light that appease their guilty consciences. The movie and music industries make sin funny and enjoyable, without showing you how it destroys your body, as well as your soul. The wages of sin are eternal death. There is a judgment where we have to give an account for our sins.
The good news is that Jesus has paid for those sins, and all He asks is for you and I to believe Him and ask Him to forgive us. He will forgive and He will empower us with His Holy Spirit to discipline our minds and bodies to resist the evil and obey the good. We have to do our part by asking, and then allowing, the light of His Word to show us how to set ourselves apart for His Kingdom; and obey what He teaches us to be pleasing to Him.
Then, at the end of time, when Christ has cleansed the earth and the heavens from all the evil and corruption of the devil and his demons and those who served him in rebellion, He does away with the sun and the moon, as He permeates the universe and the New Jerusalem and the New Earth with His Light and Glory once again. Those who believe in Him will rule with Him as Kings and Priests over His New Creation. There will be no more suffering or disharmony, but all shall know the Lord and be clothed with His Light.
Revelation 3:5, “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in White Raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the Book of Life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before the angels.”
God desires us to be as little children, without shame and guilt, loving and playing in the Glory of His Presence, which is Pure Light. We can only do this by continually confessing those words, thoughts and behaviors which displease Him and goes against the teaching of His Word. We have to separate ourselves to spend time alone with Him in prayer and reading His Word; allowing the Light to open our spiritual understanding to what does and what does not please Him. As we draw nigh to Him, He will draw nigh to us, and fill us with wisdom and understanding with the power of His Holy Spirit as the flame to our spirits as the candles of the Lord.
When He returns for His believers, then we will be comfortable dwelling in His Light; because we already have been trying the Wedding Garment of Light on, making sure it fits for His approval.
