I just finished reading the book Proof of Heaven by Eben Alexander III, M.D.
Dr. Alexander has over 25 years of practice as a Neurosurgeon, having performed thousands of brain operations. He has heard his patients tell of many NDE’s or Near Death Experiences.
He processed these through the filter of his medical and scientific knowledge, then discarded them as a chemical reaction of the brain under duress, or as fantasy. That is until he had his own NDE.
He developed a rare illness that put him into a coma for seven days, completely shutting down the part of his brain that makes us human; thought, and emotion. The Doctors were ready to shut his body down, when he miraculously popped his eyes open, and came back.
Dr. Alexander was a medical miracle! The real miracle though was his journey through the veil that separates this world from the next. He had his medical knowledge turned upside down.
He now believes that true health can only be realized when we believe that God and the Soul are real, and that Death is not the end of our personal existence, rather a transistion into a world so full of love and beauty, that earthly words fail to describe.
Isn’t this what the ‘3rd Heaven guy’ said in II Corinthians 12:4? Paul heard inexpressible words that were not lawful for a man to utter.
I encourage you to read the book. I do not fully endorse the terms that he uses, but I do believe his experience is not a fantasy, nor a breakdown of brain chemistry. Enjoy.
