Colossians 1:12-17 says that the Father has delivered us from the power of darkness, translating us into the kingdom of His dear Son. We have redemption through the Blood of Jesus Christ, the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature, for by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in the earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers. All things were created by Him and for Him, and He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.
Genesis 1:1 says, in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Job 38:4-7 says God laid the foundations of the earth and the morning stars or angels sang together and all the sons of God or angels shouted for joy.
Colossians 1:15 says that God or the Father is invisible to the human eye, and that Jesus Christ is the image of His Father.
Jesus confirms this to Philip in John 14:9-10, “he that has seen me has seen the Father, the Father that dwells in me, he doeth the works.”
John 4:24 tells us that God the Father is a Spirit. They that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.
Pilate asked in John 18:38, “What is Truth?”
Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.”
John 17:17, “sanctify them in the truth; your Word is Truth.”
Colossians 1:13 says we have been delivered from the ‘Power of Darkness’ into the ‘Kingdom’ of His dear Son.
Who is this ‘Power of Darkness’? Why was there darkness upon the face of the deep in Genesis 1:2?
I John 1:5 says, “…God is Light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
John 14:30 says, “Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the ‘Prince of this world’ cometh, and hath nothing in me.”
Ephesians 2:2 says, “Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the ‘Prince of the power of the air’, the ‘spirit’ that now works in the children of disobedience.”
In Matthew 12:26, Jesus tells us that Satan has a kingdom and that he is not divided against himself by casting out his own demons.
Ephesians 6:12 says we wrestle against principalities and rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places.
Isaiah chapter fourteen tells us that Lucifer was the son of the morning and was a covering cherub until he became proud of his beauty and envious of God’s worship.
I will ascend into heaven.
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.
I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the North.
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds.
I will be like the most High.
Five ‘I Wills’ brought Lucifer down from God’s throne room.
Ezekiel 18 tells us that Lucifer was in Eden, the garden of God, with every precious stone as his covering. Lucifer was able to make music, as heaven’s choir director, unlike any other angel.
Genesis 1:2 “And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the waters.”
God, through Jesus Christ, creates the angels. Lucifer is chief over all the other angels, as the covering cherub. He becomes proud because of his beauty, skills and power and begins to desire more power and even the throne of God Himself.
God casts him out of the third heaven. Lucifer is now known as Satan and many other names, and he rules as ‘Prince and Power of the air’ from the second heaven.
He had authority over the planets of the universe, referenced by the stones of fire in Ezekiel 28:14.
When Adam is made by God’s own hands into God’s image and likeness with a ‘spirit’ like His, God places him in a garden that is patterned like the Garden of God in heaven.
Satan is already there, because he has been judged and the earth is now full of darkness and wasted. When God judged Lucifer for his rebellion, His judgment was also upon all that Lucifer had authority over, including the earth and our solar system.
Job is told by his servants that there came lightning and a great wind from the wilderness, destroying and slaying his children and possessions. This shows that Satan has some authority over the weather patterns, as Jesus confirmed when He rebuked the winds in Mark 4:39, saying, “Peace be still!” The devil was trying to kill the disciples.
A personal note: when I was twelve years old, there came a storm on the farm which turned into a tornado coming straight for the farmhouse. Mom hustled my brother and I outside and down into the cellar. We were able to stand on boxes and watch the tornado come across the field right at us. Mom is praying, asking God for protection and mercy, and all of a sudden that tornado went to our right. We heard the tremendous sound as it went past the house. When things had quieted down, Mom opens the cellar door and we cautiously make our way outside. Everything is very still now and there are tree limbs and branches scattered all over the yard. Then we look toward the barn and see the corn crib upside down on its roof. The tornado had picked up the crib full of corn and turned it upside down and set it back down again without doing one bit of damage to it. When Dad got home from work, we found that the tornado had also uprooted several big trees in the woods behind the house. Mom’s prayers kept us from being wiped out in that tornado.
Satan appears to Jesus immediately after He has fasted forty days, when He is weak with hunger. After Jesus refuses to turn stones into bread, and refuses to jump from the top of the temple, the devil takes him to an exceedingly high mountain and shows Him all the kingdoms of this world, saying, “all these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.” “All this power will I give you and all the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.” (Matthew 4:8-9 and Luke 4:5-6)
When the devil appeared to Eve, he got her to question God and His Word by twisting the Word. “Hath God said, “You shall not eat of ‘every’ tree of the garden?” God didn’t say anything about ‘every’ tree, just the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Satan then disputed God’s Word by saying Eve would not surely die, while he deceived her into believing that she would be wise like the gods, knowing good and evil. God was trying to protect her from knowing anything about evil, by knowing only good.
Eve ate of the fruit and gave it to Adam, who ate also.
Eve and Adam obeyed Satan and thus became his servants. They disobeyed God and, like Lucifer, had to be separated from His Presence by being set outside the Garden of Eden. As Cherubs guard the Throne of the Father, so cherubs guarded the entrance to the Garden of Eden. They left the ‘Kingdom of Light’ to enter into the ‘Kingdom of Darkness’.
Satan was once Lucifer and ruled over the other angels in heaven. He was gifted in music and led the other angels in worship to the Father. He was called a covering cherub and held such an important position in heaven, that Michael would not rebuke him directly about the body of Moses.
Jude 1:9 “But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse the devil of blasphemy, but simply said, “The Lord rebuke you!” (This took place when Michael was arguing with the devil about Moses’ body).
Satan was once full of Light. When he fell from heaven, he became full of darkness. He became the Prince of Darkness, the Ruler of this world.
II Corinthians 6:14 says, “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”
God is Holiness and Justice in all Purity, desiring to show Love and Mercy and Forgiveness as demonstrated throughout the Old Testament. He sent many warnings to Israel before he judged them for their rebellion and disobedience.
II Peter 3:9 says, “…He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
Jesus Christ became the Lamb of God to atone for the sins of mankind. He became the Kinsman Redeemer to redeem us back to the Father. He became our High Priest to intercede between us and the Father. He paid the penalty for our sins. He paid the Ransom to the devil for our souls. He has Redeemed us through His Blood, and translated us into His Kingdom of Light, out of Satan’s Kingdom of Darkness.
I John 4:4 says, “…Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.”
God did not create evil. He created all things beautiful and good. Satan became evil through disobedience and desiring to be his own god.
Lucifer introduced evil into the world, and now, because mankind continues to yield their carnal minds and wills to him, he rules them as his servants; fulfilling all the desires of this world, the flesh, and his demons, while being blinded and deceived into thinking they are making their own choices based upon their own superior intellect.
Only when man repents of his evil, disobedient, rebellious ways, will God remove the cherubs standing between Him and us, allowing us to fellowship once again with His Holiness. When we hate evil as God hates evil, when we want justice as God wants justice, when we want purity as God wants purity, then we will separate ourselves from this present darkness and bow our knees and pray:
“Hallowed be thy Name.”
“Thy Will be done. Thy Kingdom come on/in earth as it is in heaven.”
“Give us this day our Daily Bread.”
“Forgive us as we forgive.”
“Lead us not into Temptation.”
“Deliver us from the Evil One.”
“For thine is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory forever. Amen.”
Jesus is ready to deliver you from the darkness. He is knocking at your heart’s door, whispering for you to invite Him inside. He won’t compete with your desires for this world’s materialism and pleasures, or with your efforts to exalt yourself to god-ship, so He whispers your name. You have to want to hear His voice; and the only way to do so is to get alone, away from all the noise of your surroundings, and open your mouth and ask Him to reveal Himself to you, with a sincere heart, wanting to believe. David says in Psalms 51:17, “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.” Call to Him and allow Him to bring His Light into your mind and heart, allowing you to see all the good He has promised to you as a believer in Him. Only then will you see the ‘Light’, and be able to separate the deception from the Truth.
