Greg Laurie, Senior Pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, prayed this prayer at the National Day of Prayer event in Washington D.C.
“Lord, we need Your help in America,” he said Thursday. “In recent days, we have done our best to remove Your Word and Your counsel from our courtrooms, classrooms and culture. It seems, as President Lincoln once said, that we have ‘forgotten God.’ But Lord, You have not forgotten us! You can bless and help and revive our country again.
“Lord, in Your mercy, we ask that You would exalt our country again. We have had a number of great awakenings in America. We have experienced times of refreshing, and revivals that changed not only the spiritual but also the moral landscape,” the pastor continued, citing both Psalm 85 and Proverbs 14, which both speak on the redeeming benefits of a religious revival.
“That is our prayer for America today, Lord. Send a mighty spiritual awakening that will turn the hearts of men and women, boys and girls back to you. You have told us if we will humble ourselves and pray, and seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways, that You will forgive our sins and heal our land.”
“Forgive us today, Lord, and heal this troubled land that we love so much.”
Pastor Laurie has come under fire from LGBT activists demanding that he be removed from leading the National Day of Prayer events due to his biblical stance regarding homosexuality and same-sex marriage.
Laurie said;
“They do not want me to pray. They describe me as ‘homophobic’ and so forth. How can you deal with such a situation? We’re in a time in our country now where I’m attacked because I believe what the Bible teaches.”
“If people want to make it all about that, I’m not going to back down. In the immortal words of the great theologian Tom Petty, ‘I won’t back down,’ I won’t. I’m not going to apologize.”
Thank God for Pastors that will still stand up and take a stand for what the Bible says about certain sins being an abomination to God. We are living in the age of Laodicea where the Gospel message is watered down with New Age teachings to appease the ears of the listeners. Our churches have opened their doors to all manner of people living in sin in the name of love without preaching against the sin they are practicing. Everyone is welcome as long as they confess that they are a Christian.
The very word Christian means to be like Christ. Christ ate with sinners and tax collectors, but He did it without encouraging their sins. He forgave the prostitute while commanding her to stop prostituting her body. I’m not sure what part of this people do not understand today. Jesus demonstrated His Father’s unconditional love by showing mercy, if the receiver of that mercy stopped committing the sin which was demanding the mercy.
I have sinned many sins down through my life, and I have asked for God’s forgiveness, but I only am free from the guilt of those sins, as I refuse to commit them anymore. Our world today wants to mercy and forgiveness without the works of repentance. Isn’t this what John the Baptist and Jesus Christ preached? Repent or turn around and walk away from your sinful behavior, for the Kingdom of God is at hand!
The Kingdom of God is peace, joy and righteousness in the Holy Spirit. Righteousness is right living, or behavior that is pleasing to God. The desire of our heavenly Father is to see each individual soul living in ways that please Him, and then teach others to do the same, until His Kingdom comes and His will is done and fills the whole earth with His knowledge and righteousness, as from sea to sea and from the least to the greatest, so that even a child can lead anyone to what is right before the Father.
Please join Pastor Laurie and all the others who are committed to seeing God forgive and heal our country by sending a revival of His Spirit and Word to convict us of what is displeasing and what is pleasing before Him. He always blesses a country that exalts Him and those who fail to do so, will be turned into hell.
